Apologies for the lack of updates - one way or another campaigning got in the way of blogging!
Anyway, with the local elections in Reading just a few weeks away we're all very excited to be backing hardworking local campaigner James Moore (centre of picture alongside Cllr Glenn Goodall and Cllr Daisy Benson) as the Lib Dem candidate for Redlands on May 3.
About James
James lives in central Reading and works for a major software company in South Reading. An experienced and energetic community activist, before moving to Reading a few years ago James volunteered as a Scout Leader for six years in Runnymede, Surrey, and sat on a number of local Council forums and committees there representing young people of the area.
He is standing hoping to take over from outgoing Redlands Lib Dem councillor Glenn Goodall who is stepping down as a councillor at the elections.
Farewell Glenn
We are very sorry indeed to see Glenn go and will miss him a great deal. Glenn is a friend of ours who has been a fantastic member of the Redlands Lib Dem team.
Glenn has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of countless Redlands residents over the past four years.
We would like to put on record our thanks to him for all the work he has done and all the time he has put in fighting for Redlands on the Council.
Campaigning in Redlands
James's work rate shows he is keen to continue the 6 year record of action of the local Lib Dem team in Redlands. Since before his selection as our candidate last Autumn James has got stuck into many of our local campaigns (such as protecting green spaces like this one on Cintra Avenue) and launched several of his own.
He's been out on the doorsteps with us every weekend talking to residents about issues that matter to them and he has reported hundreds of issues to the Council for action up and down the ward.
James cares passionately about the Redlands area and back in February he challenged the Council to do more to protect local shopping areas such as Christchurch Green (pictured) after residents contacted him with concerns about the area going downhill as the result of new shops popping up without appropriate planning permissions.
James has also been quick to respond to residents concerns about bread and butter issues such as faulty street lights on Sutton Walk (below).
and damaged fences on Clayton Walk (pictured):
Working for you - all year round!
Over Easter the team were out campaigning across the ward - delivering Focus leaflets, picking up issues and talking to residents.
It's clear from speaking to people who live in the area that residents really value the work we do and want to elect councillors that listen to them and get things done.
We work hard for residents all year round not just at election time - and as this picture shows sub-zero pictures do not deter us!
